Waxing 101!

Never been waxed?  Curious about it?  Here are some frequently asked questions about waxing, and answers from our esthetician Chris:

Does waxing hurt?
Yes, but it’s not that bad. Waxing feels like a little pinch. The more you do it, the easier it gets. Don’t let the pain factor effect your decision to get waxed.

How long does my hair need to be?
The hair should be at least ¼ inch long to get a good wax. If it’s longer than a ¼ inch that’s okay.

How long will my skin be smooth?
Your skin will be smooth for about a week. Then you’ll notice random hairs growing back in. The hair usually grows back finer and thinner. You can get waxed every 4-6 weeks. DON’T SHAVE IN BETWEEN WAX APPOINTMENTS. It’s like starting over. But if shaving happens, don’t sweat it.

Will my skin be red?
First time waxers will be red and bumpy. We are taking the hair out by the root and stressing out the hair follicle, so you may be red for up to 24 hours. Keep up with your waxing and your skin won’t be as red.

How should I treat my skin after waxing?
Keep your skin clean. Don’t touch it. If you get a bikini wax try not to workout for a few hours after you get waxed. Once the redness has gone away it’s important to exfoliate your skin. Use a clean washcloth in the shower, and make sure to use a fragrance free moisturizer. If you are having issues with ingrown hairs, try a product like Finipil, which we have at Honeycomb.
